Grammar and Composition for 6 and 7 gradersThis dynamic class is perfect for sixth or seventh grade students. It teaches students the basics and fundamentals of grammar. We also learn and practice how to format a paper in Google Docs. Additionally, students will learn to write a variety of papers including: a personal narrative, a definition essay, an expository essay, a research paper, and a literary analysis. Each student receives personal feedback on his papers so he can learn and grow as a writer. This course blends well with Literature for the Middle School Student to create a complete language arts block. Students should plan on spending 4 hours a week on homework for this course. We will meet via Zoom on Thursdays 10:30 - 11:45.

Grammar and COMPOSITION for 7 and 8 gradersThis class is designed for seventh or eighth grade students. Students will review and build upon their grammar knowledge. Students will learn how to conduct research, craft a thesis, create an outline, and write an essay. Students are actively engaged in the writing process and are supported at every step. Each student receives personal feedback on his papers so he can learn and grow as a writer. This course blends well with Literature for the Middle School Student to create a complete language arts block. Students should plan on spending 4 hours a week on homework for this course. This course will meet via Zoom on Tuesdays from 10:30 - 11:45.

This relevant course will prepare students to be engaged and responsible citizens. We will dive deep into our American past and learn about the foundations of government and study the ideals of our founding fathers. We will study the Constitution and the three branches of government. Special attention will be given to the election process and the electoral college. During the second semester we will use Dave Ramsey's curriculum: Foundations in Personal Finance. Students will dive into rich and relevant literature while learning how authors use literary terms and devices to make their writing come to life. We will read a variety of literature including novels, short stories, and poetry. Students will be taught how to craft a literary response in clear and guided steps and how to lead and participate in a group discussion. Throughout the year students will work in self-selected literature circles where choice and responsibility are emphasized. This class pairs beautifully with the Grammar and Composition classes for middle school students to create a complete language arts block. Students should expect to spend 4 hours a week on homework. This class will meet via Zoom on Tuesdays 12:30 - 1:45.
